So… I’ve taken some time to write this post. Dunno why. But I have. Maybe I’ve left the stuff of the day distract me. Whatever. I’m here now. And so, apparently, is ‘Vicki & Lara.’ My first ebook.
Boo yaah!
And the best part? My book is out before any of Ileandra’s.
Petty? Maybe.
Strange (considering we share a body)? Oh yes.
But satisfying just the same. And I’ve taken some time today to savour that.
But that’s not the only cool thing that’s happened this week.
Ignore the hint of fear in my eyes; it was fun.
Electro Tease. Leicester’s only (that I know of) regular burlesque night. Friday happened to be the Boylesque night (which, as it sounds, is boys parting with clothing rather than girls). And I got called up on stage to display a ‘special talent’ with a view to winning a bag of goodies from Lush.
Well… beyond ‘making children’ I only really have one talent. The obvious one. Writing. And when I made the Face (you know the one, the I’m-slightly-embarassed-but-not-enough-to-keep-quiet-I-just-need-to-gear-up-to-it-face) it was obvious that erotica is what I specialise in. So… I wrote some erotica. Just a couple of lines. But I did it on stage. In front of a fairly decent crowd, utterly on the fly.
That was a new and exciting experience. And not just because it was a fun night, but because it’s another example of when I was able to be a writer in the open. To talk about it and introduce myself that way. That’s important.
I don’t usually reblog a lot of articles. I like to write my own content. But today, particularly with ‘Vicki & Lara’ releasing on Sunday, I just can’t help myself.
Another weekend (and week) of fun! Wonderful, wonderful fun!
Have any of you heard of the sport roller derby? I’d not – not really – until Dave mentioned it a while back. He kept asking me if I wanted to go see a game and so far, though I’ve not managed to see them, I did do a little research. And decided I wanted to give it a try. Leicester’s Dolly Rockit Rollers had an open day/in take yesterday and I went along.
Wow. The first time I’ve been on quad skates for years. And I didn’t fall over! Except when I was supposed to, of course. It’s so important; knowing how to fall over properly.
In fact, I read an article a short while ago about kids really injuring themselves in playgrounds because they’ve never learned how to fall properly. Their parents are so panicked all the time that they never let the kids fall. So when it happens, they don’t know how to deal with it. *snerk* That’s never going to happen with my pair; they know damn well how to fall; they do it so often!
~Edit: Okay. Michael just fell on his face (literally) and cut his lip. *sigh*
Serves me right I guess.
He’s fine, by the way.
Anyway! If you want an idea of what the Dolly Rockits do, then take a look at this video:
So that was yesterday. On Saturday I managed to briefly visit a meet up with the East Midlands Roleplayers. Something I’ve not been able to do since even before I was pregnant. The meet moved to a pub just five minutes from my house so I really had no excuse. It was so nice to be able to do that again. I’ve no idea if I’ll be able to visit regularly (other things just have to come ahead of games), but knowing it’s there means a great deal.
And what about the rest of the week?
I finally cracked a couple of goals that were giving me trouble over the past couple of weeks, so I’ve relaxed somewhat. Good thing really, since I woke up this morning feeling sick and I still haven’t eaten. I don’t dare!
Complete at least three transcripts and invoice for them
Done. At last! In fact, I did four. And got paid for the last nine, so I have some funds to play with. Good thing really, since I would very much like to pay Grace for her excellent work with my photo shoot as soon as possible. I don’t believe in keeping people waiting for pay. Especially when their work is so incredible.
Send out copies of Vicki & Lara to competition winners (on Saturday)
Sorted. I’m glad they’ve gone and that the winners can read them at their leisure. Obviously there is no rush for them to do so, but it was important to me that everybody received their copies prior to release, like I promised. For those of you who unfortunately didn’t win, the ebook goes on sale next Sunday through Amazon and Smashwords. In fact, you can pre-order it here if you’re so inclined. 🙂
Finish first draft of the new AI story (for the competition)
Sorted, as well as the next draft. I’m going to let the piece breathe for a week before looking at it again. The closing date is 15 November, so I have some time. I’m trying to work ahead of deadlines these days to keep up the relaxed feeling I’m enjoying at th emoment.
This week? Not sure. I’ve over done the baking (mmm cake) so I should lay off that. Maybe a few more bits of real work and some editing?
Finish read through of SORB (Oh, didn’t I mention? I changed my mind – AGAIN – and will in fact be working on that through NaNoWriMo) and create chapter outline with brief outline for the other two books.
Complete two more transcripts
Brush up the last few tweaks on interview with Tab Kimpton
Profiles on Smashwords and Amazon to complement the release of ‘Vicki & Lara’
I think that goes pretty well towards meeting this month’s goals. Let’s see how we go.
What about you guys? Doing anything fun this week? Meeting your own goals, small or large? Why not tell me about it? Sharing successes and plans makes them all the sweeter!
I’m having a bit of trouble thinking straight tonight. I should have posted this several hours ago, for instance. Instead, I’ve been staring at the screen and gurgling like a stuffed up tap.
I’m weird. Who knew?
Oh. You did?
Okay then.
ANYWAY! Today is the day to finally let you all see the cover for the upcoming ebook; Vicki & Lara. Each time I look at it I want to cry ever so slightly, so I’m going to let Raven talk to you instead. It is her book after all.
*snerk*
Damn right it’s my book! And I want to be the one to talk about it. Though, saying that, I’m having the same trouble as my other half (heh, go figure) in that I can’t think straight.
You know that feeling you get when something you’ve been working towards for ages finally comes to pass? That feeling insisting that you scream and shout and leap up and down and punch the air and stuff metric-fuck-tonnes of congratulatory chocolate down your throat?
Yeah. That.
Part of me is still growling, saying ‘It’s not that big a deal.’ That ‘I should be prepared for the hard work that comes next, because I ain’t seen nothing yet.’ Hmmph. Well. I would like you all to help me tell that part of me to fuck right off.
I’m allowed to be happy right now. I’m allowed to take a real night off. I’m allowed to relax and just enjoy the fact that I’ve done something I never thought I’d be able to do.
So… for your pleasure; feast your eyes on the first cover in the Meeting Each Other series:
There.
I’ve done it.
No going back now.
…
I want a drink.
Well. Despite my promises to NEVER blog while drunk I felt the need to post this lovely notification I got from WordPress on returning from a ska gig at a local pub:Yeeeeeeeeeah!
Happy. Freakin. Birthday.
