Ch- Ch- Chaaaaaaanges!

‘Fraid so. You might have noticed in goals published by both Ileandra and myself that we’re talking about static sites to run alongside the blog. The time has come to explain.

For those of you who don’t know, Ileandra writes fantasy, horror and occasionally a little comedy. In recent months she’s also written a lot of general fiction. I write erotica. Just erotica.
We share this blog because, even though we have different names, we share a body. The names Ileandra Young and Raven ShadowHawk are pseudonyms employed by one woman who wants to be fair to any followers and/or fans she may have scooped up on this mad journey of hers.

Some folk may love erotica. Others may not, though they may be partial to a good bit of fantasy or comedy. I enjoy both, but acknowledge that you may not.

Last year posts from us were separated and we’ve since tagged them by author, meaning, if you so wish, you can follow just Ileandra’s RSS feed or just my RSS feed. You can follow both, that’s up to you, but now the choice is there.

With a year of publications looming, it seems important to give folk outside the blogging world, a fair chance of figuring out what’s going. To that end, both myself and Ileandra will have author websites, with our own domains that are utterly separate from each other. Both will have links back to this blog which will continue to run for the foreseeable future, but the individual content on each site will be geared specifically towards fantasy and horror for Ileandra and erotica for me. Each site will have excerpts and samples available for download (some of which will be lifted from here) as well as news regarding new releases and giveaways. The sites will also enable readers to buy special edition books and ebooks directly (i.e. books with digital signatures, pen and paper signatures, or personalised content). You will also be able to buy standard books from these sites as well as Amazon, Smashwords and dozens of other ebook retailers.

Phew!

As you can probably guess, this is going to keep both of us pretty busy over the coming months. But we’re looking forward to it.

As far as this blog goes, we will be neatening the pages, updating the content and choosing a new theme with cleaner lines and clearer links. We’ll also be changing the domain name. We want the experience for you, the reader, to be as clear and easy as we can possibly make it and this blog is well over due for some maintenance.

In fact, the domain name should have updated by now, but, for those of you who haven’t spotted it, look at the address bar in your browser.

http://www.ileandrayoung.com will still work up until some point in the middle of March. It will direct you here and things will be just as normal. HOWEVER… the true domain for the site is now http://www.ileandraXraven.co.uk and this is the domain name you will need to access this blog after the end of March. I’d advise making those changes to your links/bookmarks now so that you’re not caught off guard when the time comes.

In addition to this the arrangement of pages through the site has been updated as well as lots of the content. This is to make clear what is my work and what is Ileandra’s and to make it easier to follow on or both of us. If that’s what you want.

For the rest, I’d ask you to please be patient and bear with us. Content will go up as normal, there should be no gap in the scheduling, all being well. And, as always both Ileandra and I are here to answer comments and questions.

Oh and, while today’s post title did, originally make me think of David Bowie, it also made me think of this.

Enjoy.

I Haz Planz – wc 09/01

Here we go! My first goals post of the year and at all. Anything Ileandra can do, I can do better, eh? :p

No, in all seriousness, this is going to be a very helpful exercise for me. I may not keep it up as religiously as Ileandra does, but I think having all my plans laid out before me in black and white is going to do me some favours in terms of ensuring I get as much done as I want to. We’ll see.

Last week
No goals specifically, but getting my words down for all those posts was hard work. Takes a lot of planning and organising and, to be honest, I just haven’t felt like it. I’ve been focused a lot on ‘Carol, Niall & Lin’ and making sure that’s ready to publish. 22 days to go and counting, by the way! Yeeeah. However I’ve done small things that needed to be done, like making lots of lists. Lists like this one:

Goals for 2014

  • Publish all six ‘Meeting Each Other’ stories as individual ebooks

  • Publish all six ‘Meeting Each Other’ stories as specially edition physical book, complete with extras. That’s right, you heard me; PHYSICAL BOOK WITH EXTRAS!

  • Work through Slippers & Chains (pt1), reading to camera and posting them here for your delectable listening pleasure

  • Publish Slippers & Chains (pt1) as ebook with unabridged and additional scenes

  • Create and populate a fresh solo website (with static content) to run alongside this blog

January 2014 Goals

  • Ensure ‘Carol, Niall & Lin’ is ready for publication and hit ‘go’

  • Ready at least four sections of Slippers & Chain for reading… then read them

  • Start building static solo site

Hmm. Looking at that, it doesn’t seem like much, but I have to remind myself that I’ll be ‘helping’ Ileandra with her goals too. Gotta make sure I don’t burn the candle at both ends.
-_- Hmm. Need a better metaphor. Ride the dildo at both ends?
…nah.

This Week

  • Come up with a better way to list these goals (!)

  • Contact my lovely photographer about photoshoot for me and Ileandra

  • Make some decisions about the website to come; hosting options, colour schemes and exact content

  • Re-record initial Slippers & Chains segments

  • Finalise front/back data for ‘Carol, Niall & Lin’

There. Doesn’t look so bad when it’s laid out like that. I can see why she does it now. The mad whirlwind of my brain has calmed somewhat. I’m actually looking forward to getting this stuff done.

Guess I should probably mention that some of these goals will double up with Ileandra’s list, so you may see them there too. You’re not getting cheated; we just have similar end games. That’s all.

That’s me done for now, except to say, if you haven’t yet, sign up to my mailing list. It’s separate from the blog, designed to give subscribers an ‘ahead-of-the-game’ peek at new releases, events, giveaways and general freebies. If you’re interested in that kind of thing (just from me, mind you, not Ileandra) then click here.

Bonus Blog: Challenges – 2014 Word Count

Who’s up for a little challenge? A little race…? Who wants to see nail biting action, buckets of sweat and high-speed chases?

Good.

Stick around. I’m not offering you screenings of The Fast and the Furious or anything like that, no. I’m offering you a chance to see Ileandra and myself race against each other through the course of the year.

Okay. Maybe that first paragraph has led to a slight anti-climax, but you can always go rent the damn film if you want.

Ileandra and I are going to race each other to reach 300,000 written over the course of the year. In 2012 Ileandra did this all by herself, trying to reach 300,000 words. She made an excellent effort considering that was the year the sprogs were born and reached a very respectable 72% of target. This year, however, it’s a race against me.

Ha!

Overall, between us, we’d like to write 300,000 words this year. Just to see if we can. That total is split evenly between us to make 150,000 words each and those are our individual targets for the year.

Like last time there will be word counters and funky widgets to keep things interesting and some sort of weird penalty thing for the looooooser. Heh, we’ll figure that out nearer the end, though I imagine it will involve doing something we dislike and ensuring that there is picture evidence.

You’ll see the pages for this challenge appear over the next day or so and that will be the place to go to check in on how we’re getting on. Rules for the challenge are pretty easy. The ambitious total of 150,000 words can only include:

  • Blog posts (including reviews)
  • First drafts (short stories, novellas, flash fiction, novels, etc)
  • Letters
  • Articles
  • Commissions

Basically… anything creative or money earning. Beyond that, it doesn’t get included.

I’m already looking forward to this. I guess a lot of that total will hinge on who gets to do NaNoWriMo this year, but we’ll argue about that come August, which is when planning usually starts to happen.

Wish us luck, eh?

Bonus Blog – Challenges: 2014 Book Goal

I’ve done this before. You can find details of it here. I wanted to read some new books in 2012 and I did pretty well. I doubt I’ll top 46 new reads, but I want to push myself to get more reading in. After all, reading is as much a part of being an author as writing is.

This year I want to read 24 novels. Doesn’t sound very stretching considering how I consume words, but with my own writing and publishing schedule it’s tougher than it sounds. But (!) not only do I want to read 24 novels, they must be novels that fit all of these criteria:

  • Novels I’ve not read before
  • Novels by authors I’ve not read before
  • Novels self-published or published by small presses – Indie authors only!
  • Novels from the genre I write in

Oh yes. This is how I intend to acquaint myself with my peers. I want to read what you’re writing. Not only am I fascinated by the idea of self-publishing, so much that I’m doing it myself, but I want to support others doing the same. So I’m going to read these books and review them.

I’ll post reviews wherever I bought the book (Amazon, Smashwords, Goodreads, etc) but I’ll also do a full review here. These will be in the same style as previous reviews which will then get shared to my social media.

This is a goal I’m sharing with Raven because there isn’t much point in my reading and reviewing and erotic novel. While I like them, they’re not really my niche. Raven is in a much better position to talk about them so she’ll do that, and I’ll stick to fantasy and action-adventure pieces, with maybe a little horror and comedy thrown in. Heh, yes, that does give me a little more scope than Raven, but she doesn’t mind.

The wonderful part of this is not only do I get to expose myself to lots more new writing that I otherwise wouldn’t, but I also get to help other authors.

Double win if you ask me.

Keep an eye out for fresh pages over the coming days which will include these details and a running total of how I’m getting on. If I can figure out how I’ll even add it to Goodreads.

Bonus Blog – New Posting Schedule: Ileandra vs Raven

Good morning all. How’s your Sunday going so far? Today it’s my turn again. This time to talk about the new schedule of posting for this blog.

Going forward, our posting schedule will look like this:

Mondays: Ileandra
Thursdays: Raven
1st and 3rd Saturdays: Ileandra
2nd and 4th Saturdays: Raven

Those months with an extra Saturday in them we’ll decide as we go. There’s only four, or was it five (?) so it won’t come up a lot, but when it does we can toss a coin over it. Or even let you decide with a vote before hand.

This is because I’ve seen Ileandra publishing her goals for the week to the blog and how her productivity has soared. It’s a useful and tidy way of both keeping you in the loop and seeing all her aims laid out in black and white.

So I’m stealing it.

I also want more of a presence on the blog (because I’m like that) so the new schedule kicks into gear properly on Thursday Jan 9.

Hope to catch you around.
