Look at that beautiful, beautiful jar! Yes, I did decide, in the end, to find a different colour for each month. Not hard so far – two months in – and it’s easy to see that the white (February) has totally trumped the yellow (January). I can’t decide if that’s because I’ve become freer with what I class as a ‘good thing‘ or because so many more good things have happened.
Whatever the case, I really enjoy stuffing the little slips of paper into the jar and I REALLY enjoy seeing the level rise. There are things in there about the boys, about me, about Dave, about life. I think the absolute highlight, however, has to be from the middle of the month when I realised, as I paid off my overdraft, that I was debt free. Like TOTALLY debt free (except for my student loan, but who counts that?) for the first time in eight years.
That felt so amazing that I had to write up that little slip of paper in massive capital letters. It couldn’t have come at a better time either, since I’m officially no longer working. With no income of my own for the foreseeable future (my business has a long way to go before it’s close to making me any money!), it’s a relief to know I’m not paying off any more debts.
The next highlight was opening up ISAs for the boys and being able to shove a massive some of money into each. Yes, it’s redundancy monies but the idea that at even this early stage of their lives, I can put some pennies aside for them, warms my belly. Looking into their starry little eyes and hearing the odd collection of sounds they make, tells me that this is the right thing to do. The money isn’t even mine any more. Now that I’ve transferred it over to the ISAs they money officially belongs to Michael and Leon. I can’t touch it (and neither can they) for 18 years. Talk about an investment!
Heh, all in all its been a WONDERFUL month! Even counting the sudden sickness we all go on Tuesday which has lead to forceful expulsion of food (and everything else) from both ends of our collective bodies (yes, yes, I know; ew!). Even that can’t bring me down.
Oh and of course, last week Michael and Leon took turns in sleeping through the night! Ha, if that’s not worth entry into the Good Things Jar, then I don’t know what is. ^_^
What about you guys? I hope February has treated you as well as it’s treated me. Are you looking forward to March? Can’t wait to hear all about it. 🙂
