Bonus Blog: Acheivements of 2011

I hesitated, at first, at doing a ‘looking back over the year’ sort of post. Then I realised that its important for me to sit back for a second and realise that what I have done is actually significant. Or at least that it should be to me. In my mind, I’ve focused a fair amount on what I haven’t done which is terribly detrimental to- well everything!.

There are plenty of things that I managed to do in 2011 that, 365 days ago, I never would have imagined I could do. I could hope for them maybe, but to reach this far and realise I’ve done all these things is almost more than my brain can cope with.

I’m not going to go through everything I’ve done, but won’t hurt to list a few of the things here. In fact I think it will be a good post for me to come back to in later months when I need a morale boost.

Post A Week
Web badge: post a weekThis was an initiative run by WordPress actually; encouraging bloggers to write at least one post a week. There was a Post A Day initiative, but even I’m not crazy enough to give that a go; I’d simply never manage it. But the idea of posting something every week, especially at the beginning when I was barely sure the blog was a good idea, was daunting to say the least. But not only did I manage it, but I posted sometimes in excess of a single entry each week. Better yet, while doing so, I managed to gather for myself a clearer idea of what this blog is for and what its about. A good few steps away from where I began in October 2010 eh?

Submission For Anthology
This is part of what brought my enjoyment of erotica back to me. Mitzi Szereto, author of erotic and multi-genre fiction is putting together an anthology named Thrones of Desire: Erotic Tales of Swords, Mist And Fire. I found talk about it on my Facebook account and this was the very first time I had considered that I may, possibly, perhaps, maybe be good enough to submit anything. At this stage its still too soon to know if I’ve been successful or not, but part of me doesn’t care. Obviously I would LOVE to be part of this anthology, but the act of submitting anything at all is a very big step for me. Taking the plunge and acknowledging the fact that I feel I’m good enough to be considered. Woo.

Alt Fiction
What an awesome day. I only went to one unfortunately; too busy to do both, but it was the single most incredible event linked to writing so far. I’m not exaggerating. I didn’t get signed or anything like that, but I went to a place on my own, a place filled with writers who are in the same boat as me. And not only did I go and have a ball, but I learned so much about what I want to do and that I CAN actually do it. I know I keep banging on about the event, but its really important to me. I can’t wait for this year.

Growing Twitter/Blog Followers Base
twitter icon logo from wiki commonsWhen this blog began I didn’t think anyone would read it. Hell I wasn’t even sure I’d keep doing it. But this year – I wish I knew how – blog followers has leapt to 26 (four of those in the last fortnight), while Twitter followers has rocketed to 253! Now for those of you with scores of followers, on either medium, that may not seem like much to you. But I’m just one woman, sitting in a dark room spitting out my thoughts for the world. The idea that anybody is interested enough to follow those thoughts, through a Twitter feed or through email is just incredible! And I would like to thank everyone following me right now. In any form. Your interest is very warming and does keep me going on those days when I just can’t be bothered.

Pregnancy
Yeah. If you don’t know by now, then pay attention, huh? I am thoroughly pregnant (almost 20 weeks in fact) and with identical twins. I don’t know if achievement is the right word, as its certainly not something I was gunning for, but its an incredible thing to have happened to me. Some days I still can’t believe it…! Then I look down at my stomach and think ‘fuck, if I’m not pregnant, then I’m getting bloody FAT!’

Publisher For Clash Of The Animal Kings
Yes… yes… I know. I’ve kept this very, very quiet. I couldn’t help it. I was going through that whole ‘to good to be true’ kinda panic and wanting to make sure I had all my gubbins together and my head straight before I started talking about it here. Yes. Its true. I have found a publisher for Clash Of The Animal Kings and I am ABSOLUTELY THRILLED! I am so happy, in fact, that its probably best that I leave the update with regards to this for tomorrow, so I can talk about it in a bit more detail.
Heh, teasers. I know.
See you tomorrow! :p

Bonus Blog: 2011 Wrap Up!

Just a short post to kick off this week long post-fest!

I got an email from WordPress on Sunday, giving me a run down of stats for the blog over the year. I was impressed as I don’t recall getting one of these last year. It seems there is a deal more to talk about this year and I wanted to share it with you. So…

I give you ‘2011 In Review!’

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 6,600 times in 2011. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 6 trips to carry that many people.

Click here to see the complete report (it has fireworks!!!).

Bonus Blog: Plans For 2012

2012 Diary

I do plan things... see? Diary!

My, my! Plans, huh? That implies forward planning and a level of organisation previously unheard of in my life. :p Okay, that’s a slight exaggeration of my rubbishness, but there are certain things I want to achieve this year. I don’t want to call them ‘resolutions,’ simply because to do that, seems to put the stamp of doom on anything I want. Despite that, there are definitely things I’m going to achieve this year.

Some of these things I don’t have a choice about; they’re going to be thrust on me, shoved in my face and held there while the universe insists I deal with it (motherhood, funerals, to name a few). Some things I certainly do have a choice about and I can pick and choose how much they are going to rule my life (what I write, when I write it, continuation of my radio show, how I treat this blog).

I want to find a healthy balance between the pair.

There are a cluster of things related to my writing career (I LOVE saying that) that I want to achieve this year. If only to prove to myself that I can do it and that the arrival of the twins in my life isn’t going to stop me doing what I’ve always wanted to. No, no… after the initial four months of no sleep, late night feeds and bleary eyes, I’m probably going to need to do more writing and hopefully draw money from it (even just a small amount) to subsidise my measly maternity pay. Tescos isn’t kidding when they say that ‘every little helps.’

Anyway… the point of this post is to say that every day this week I’m going to post something about my plans. Yes… it is a break from my usual scheduling, but the New Year (why is that always capitalised? -does it count as a noun?) is a time for new beginnings, new schedules, new diaries, new calendars and all sorts. Not that I plan to change my posting schedule by the way; Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays suit me fine, though the way I feel right now, its possible that ‘Bonus Blogs’ such as this one will become a lot more frequent.

So stay with me, enjoy the week and be in on the ground floor into what I hope 2012 is going to bring to me.

Happy New Year 2012

Ooooooooooooo! First post of the new year! Shame I don’t have anything sensible to say. Heh, never mind. Normal posting schedule will continue as normal, so I’ll just use this post to say:
happy new year!

Oh and isn’t this year supposed to be the end of the world or something? o.O

I really feel the need to watch that film so I have some idea of what’s coming so I don’t get caught off guard by the apocolypse or something. I’d be mad as hell if I missed out on some handy survival tips, just becasuse there was a film I didn’t watch. 😀

Book Review: Bite Me

Author: Christopher Moore
Title: Bite Me
Genre: Comedy Horror
ISBN: 9780751545449
‘Abby is dedicated to turning herself into a vampire. Her boyfriend Steve is researching a serum to turn the undead back into mortals.’

OH MY GOD ITS HIM AGAIN!!! ^_^

I didn’t realise this was Christopher Moore again! More than that, I didn’t realise that this book was the next one after You Suck! Imagine my glee when I open up the first pages, and find Abby Normal (most hilarious and emo-goth kid I’ve ever come across in all my reading career) recapping You Suck in her own fantastic style. And giving you a quiz afterwards! Seriously… when she says it, she’s not kidding; pay attention when you read this book!

This book had me rocking from start to finish. It was one of those that had me snickering in the canteen, some time bursting out loud in peals so outrageous that I didn’t really have an excuse. In the four days I spent with this book as much lunch time read, I hid in the corner and ducked my head, trying not to snicker too much, thusly snorting salad up my nose.

From start to finish, the tale is hilarious, with warm characters, absolutely bizarre twists and of course a vampire cat. Seriously… who wouldn’t LOVE a vampire cat? Well… maybe not this one.

And through it all, yes, it is actually a love story. Jody and Tommy trapped in bronze by their minion who ‘only wants them to be together forever’ are probably the only vampire couple to date that don’t make me want to barf my lunch for fear of being unable to digest the sparkles (bad for the liver, you know…) -____- In fact, this is probably the only book I can think of where a ‘cure’ for the vampire ‘virus’ didn’t burn me up with rage.

So yeah… I don’t know how coherent that was, but take this away with you; I loved this book!
Read it.
