Merry Christmas 2012

christmas and presents and holly
Gooooood morning everyone! I hope you’re having a wonderful, beautiful, enjoyable Christmas! Normally I’d do a short post with a pretty picture, but since this is my usual posting day I’ll add a little extra.

Today is my first Christmas as a mummy (with the babies on the outside, that is). Today is the first day I’ll be cooking Christmas dinner. Today is the first Christmas I have spent in Leicester since moving here and today is a wonderful, enjoyable, beautiful day. Already. My sister is here, my boys are here, my man is here and there are plenty of visits scheduled through the day from various family members.

I want to say to all of you; I’M SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY!

And I always want to say that I hope you all have a very, merry Christmas. Don’t overstuff yourself on good, yummy food!

Catch you on Thursday. 🙂

Six Sentence Sunday 23/12 #44

Oops! This is a little late, but I suppose it’s better late than never. This Sunday’s Six Sunday offering is not included with the rest of those ever at the main website, but I still want to give you the next selection.

So, last week, Raven rushes over to the front door to let in her new pet. But what will she find on the other side? Oooooo :-p

With a steadying breath, Raven bent down to the letter box and pushed the blindfold through it. “Put that on,” she ordered, raising her voice to be heard through the glass.

There was the tiniest, muffled gasp through the door and the sound of shuffling. Then Raven saw the dark shape duck.

She waited; giving what she hoped was suitable time to don the blindfold before opening the door.

There he stood.

First sight of the new pet, but what does he look like? What is he wearing? What is he doing??? ??? You’ll have to pop in next week to find out. Mwah ha ha ha hahaaa!

Use the banner link below to check out what the others are up to and hopefully next week I’ll be back in the lists. Cheers!

THE END OF THE WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORLD!

NUKE - THE WORLD COMES TO AND END

Are we still here?

Oh good. Okay. Just checking.

I don’t know about the timing of this post, but I figure if the world was going to end I would have learned about it by now. Frankly put, if I’m going to buy into the Mayans predicting world’s end, I’m going to fall into the party of ‘subtle single event changes the course of history forever.’ A bit like in the second (or third?) series of Alias.

If you’re not familiar with the show (you really should be, by the way), then the character Arvin Sloane has spent a great deal of time searching for something that the CIA would rather prefer he did not have. And they receive intel that a world shattering event will take place at a particular time. They do everything they can to prevent what they believe to be a dangerous artefact being shipped across the globe, however at the time specified by their intel, they open the box and find it empty. However, thousands and thousands of miles away Arvin Sloane receives a little piece of paper that he opens up and reads at the time specified by this intel. I always liked that clever little twist on the idea of world shattering event; some dude reads a piece of paper. Yes, outwardly it is a small thing, but the consequences of him reading that paper were felt through the remaining four (or three?) seasons of the show.

So yeah… I decided that at some point today I’m going to… I dunno… fart or something… and that’s going to change the world forever. Hehee.

Failing that, the world has ended and this post was completely pointless and is lost in the ether of nowhere because an invisible meteorite has impacted earth, caused multiple floods, earthquakes and landslides, generated an instant and all encompassing winter and killed of millions of people in a single stroke.

Yeah… that.

Lemon Drizzle Cake – The Crumbling Cookie

We’re back for another lemon drizzle cake review! I have to say I’m really enjoying myself. ^_^ Any excuse to eat cake is absolutely fine by me, but to do so and actually think about what I’m eating while I’m eating it is quite nice too. This is fabulous fun!

So, next up is The Crumbling Cookie, a cute little eatery in the middle of town that also hosts live gigs downstairs. The upstairs is quite nice too, though I don’t get to go up there all that often because of the pram. The staff in the place are absolutely lovely and this is another of those locations in which the staff are watching my boys grow up with me. Hehee.

Anyway, onto the review:

lemon drizzle cake from the crumbling cookie

Presentation
four starsNot only is this slice a cake a good size, but it comes with a lovely dollop of cream! ^_^ Composed of two sections, the slice is even on the top on bottom with lovely thick icing (not too thick) on the top and a layer of lemon curd in the middle. All in all, very pleasing to the eye.

Taste
four starsI love this cake! The icing had a lovely zing to it and the sponge has a pleasant sing of lemon, though with a hint of sweet. That filling, the lemon curd through the middle, not so much as to be sickly, but enough to provide an extra sing when mixed with the cream. I know the cream is just squirty cream from a can, but that, with a good forkful of cake and icing provides a wonderful taste experience.

Texture
five starsPerfect balance between moist and dry (if that makes sense). The cake is light and very clearly home-made, so it benefits from tasting slightly different every time. The lemon curd in the centre provides a smooth counterpoint to the slight crunch you get from the icing. The sponge is not moist the way some people most rave about a Victoria sponge, but that suits me. I prefer finding the moisture from that centre and from being selective on how I eat the cream.

Cost
five starsI had to double check myself today, but I was right. This gorgeous cake costs £1.95. That is a FANTASTIC price for something so yummy and of a decent size. In fact, it was the cost of this cake that began my slight obsession with lemon drizzle in the first place; it is affordable! For the size of the slice, the extra dollop of cream I think I’m perfectly happy to pay £1.95. In fact, I was convinced – until checking – that it cost a little more!

Overall Rating
4.5 stars
I had to make a new image for this! Realised I didn’t have any ‘half’ images. Yes, this cake goes away with a very respectable four and a half stars, an all over beeeeautiful cake!

Six Sentence Sunday 16/12 #43

After the little blip earlier in the week, through which my last post went out on Thursday instead of Friday (oops!), I think we’re all back to normal. As normal as it ever gets around here anyway. ^_^

During my last Six Sunday offering I talked about the piece I’m writing for the With Curves anthology. I still think the piece needs a little more work, but I would imagine that by the time Christmas is over, I’ll be able to submit it to some fresh eyes to read and get feedback on.

That in mind, here is another sample from the BBW tale.

In the previous instalment, Raven has been instructed to bring ‘him’ in. She has been delicately touched by the man she calls ‘Master’ and has show some nerves over the instruction.

Raven felt a grin pull up her lips as she bounded away, dashing through the living room and to the front door.

“Raven….” Master’s amused voice followed her to the door and she looked back to find him holding out a silky black blindfold and a lead studded with chips of glass fashioned to look like diamonds.

“Oops!” Reaching out, Raven plucked both from Master’s outstretched hand and carried them with her to the front door.

There was a dark outline of a shape against the door’s frosted glass; her pet waiting obediently and patiently outside.

Oh eh? And what will happen when she opens the door to greet her ‘pet?’ Next week will tell. :p

Ooookay; just like usual, the banner link below will whisk you away to the main site where you’ll find the rest of the authors taking part in this week’s Six Sunday. I hope you’ll enjoy reading them.
