IY: Fantasy Creatures – Vampires – Where Do I Begin?!

This is the last fantasy creature I’ll be featuring before the blog shuts. Heh, are you surprised that it’s vampires? Come on? Really? 😉

I can’t think of any significant novel/novella length story that didn’t feature them in some way or another. I adore the creatures and everything about them. It’s the concept that I enjoy the most. So, I go out of my way to include vampires in as much of my writing as possible.

What can I say, it makes me feel good inside! 😉

It’s worth mention that one of the reasons I enjoy vampires so much is because of how versatile they are. Next time I’m talking to you guys I’ll be going through just how many variations there are on the basic theme, but for now, know that my major published works (Saar’s Legacy and Dead And Alive) both feature vampires that are completely different from each other. Those of Saar’s Legacy have their own creation myth, religion and culture, while those of Dead and Alive are a little more generic. Regardless, for all their differences, they remain vampires and easily recognisable as such.

These fanged creatures of the night come in so many flavours, that, at times, it’s hard to point and say ‘this is, in fact, a vampire.’ Hollywood takes as many liberties with them as writers do and I can’t think of another fantasy creature that allows such treatment.

What’s not to like about that?

About Ileandra Young

I'm a thirty-*mumbles* year old (purple loving, cheese worshipping) author of fantasy, juggling a pair of beautiful twin boys with my burning desire to make up stories and write them all down. When I get the chance, I play games, listen to music, and in days long past I even ran a radio show. Though I occasionally write non-fiction, my heart lives in fantasy and my debut novel, Silk Over Razor Blades is now available through Amazon along with part two of the trilogy, Walking The Razor's Edge.
