I know people don’t normally talk about such things but after my blow out last week and various rants I thought I’d lighten the tone a bit. Or… y’know… muck it up a bit. :-p
So… do you?
Why are people so ashamed of it? If not for the porn industry I doubt very much that the internet would be such an amazing tool. And don’t sit there and tell me that the internet is about sharing information and learning and communication.
I know that. Of course it is. But it’s also a means for those of us who wish to, to get their rocks off to all manner of suitably naughty things. I think this song explains it better than I do:
By the way, though the animation is from WoW (I think) the song itself is from the stage show Avenue Q. It’s freakin’ AWESOME and, if you get a chance to see it, make sure that you do. It’s a laugh a minute, I promise you.
Right, now we have that cleared up.
What is it about porn that makes people get so twitchy? And I don’t mean those very simple old wives tales about going blind if you masturbate or God killing puppies. I mean people stashing their dirty magazines under the bed so they won’t be found, or lining their DVD cases with fake covers so the true one with naked boobs and arse on it can’t be seen by the causal observer.

No… hang on, that’s a complete lie. A friend of mine who used to worn in ‘adult websites’ gave me a DVD once. 3D porn. I shit you not. It was comical; I had to watch it, but the most 3D aspect about it was the floating bubbles in the bubble bath scene. The rest of it… rubbish.
But aside from that I don’t have any porn- no, hang on… still lying.
I have some hentai stuff. o.O
I had an anime phase while I was at uni and I bought this DVD box set in HMV. At the time I didn’t think anything of the weird look I got from the man who served me, but then I took them home and watched them. … Holy hell, but when they say ‘adult material enclosed’ they aren’t kidding! Would you believe me if I told you that I didn’t know what it was when I bought it? I didn’t. Honestly. Hand on heart. I had no idea. I was so naive back then. :-p
Wow, okay. Realising that has just made every point I was going to talk about completely invalid. The 3D porn is stuffed at the bottom of a drawer underneath the underwear I don’t wear any more and the anime box set is hiding behind Ileandra’s Katherine Kerr books. -_-
Moving on!

~Stop checking my email every two hours for answers from Breathless Press.
Eeerm. Every six hours. I guess that’s better though. At least I’m not lingering over my inbox waiting for something instead of getting other work done.
~Complete at least 1,500 words of deep edits on ‘Eric & Morgan’.

~Pull together my ‘Meeting Master’ short story for placement on solo website as a freebie
Okay, with this, I was going to, honest, but it needs work. I’m not happy with it. Just because it’s free doesn’t mean I should let it go before I’m happy with it. So that’s what I’m going to tackle this week.
This Week
- Keep email checks down to twice a day only.
- Complete at least 1,500 words of deep edits on ‘Eric & Morgan’
- Make the changes I want to make on my ‘Meeting Master’ short story and prepare it for download
There. Now… I have a LARP next week so I’m not sure what my posts will be like yet. I’ll probably schedule something in so you don’t miss me too much. Whatever happens there will be something here from me on Thursday and Saturday next week, but probably a little diversion from our usual scheduling. Hope that’s too disappointing. 😉

Hey, I found the rest of my accessories today; crystal head dress, gold sash (both of them), woven belt, bracers, spirit gum and hip pouch.
They even smell like the Summer Stars camp. ^_^

Um, sure. If I’m being honest though, the vast majority of porn (that I’ve seen) isn’t all that great. Some lovely sex scenes, but in every bone (excuse the pun) I’m aching for some kind of story driving it forward.
As for why people go to great lengths to hide it away, I’m guessing because they don’t want to face that awkward moment when someone asks them about it. Which, when you think about it, isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
On the subject of progress, well, I’m not exactly hitting my targets at the moment. But I’m pushing forward in other ways, like practising my epub creation skills with a test run of a story over on NOOK Press. They actually have a very friendly publishing interface, I like it.
What I’ve realised though, after taking a look at the NOOK Press store, is that there’s a lot of competition out there, and I’m not sure how likely it is that people are going to even find my books just by casually browsing. Maybe when I have a lot of stories up there, things will change.

Ugh I’vet yet to come across anything marketed as porn that had any sort of plot to it. There’s some erotic/sensual films which fill that gap, but certainly nothing under the banner of ‘porn.’
Maybe that’s part of the reason why… because if you’re watching ‘porn’ then there’s really only one thing you’re watching it for while an ‘erotic’ or ‘sensual’ film can at least be watched under the guise of ‘I’m interested in the story.’
Kinda like those folk who ‘read Playboy for the stories and articles.’ 😉

An old friend raved about a film called A Midsummer Night’s Cream (yeah, I know). Based on the Shakespeare play, and apparently the story was really good. I never watched it (not really my thing I’m afraid), but apparently well worth checking out if you’re after porn with a plot. I’d be interested to know if it has enough story for feminine tastes if anyone’s bold enough to report back, or if it’s a man’s idea of story…

You’re the first person I’ve come across using NOOK so I’m glad you took the time to tell me how you’re getting on.
Though it seems you’ve got the same sort of problem as the rest of the world; getting noticed. It’s really hard, as I’ve already discovered. And there’s no hard and fast trick either.
I know for a fact I could do more work towards promoting my words, so I should probably do that before I start whining about it, but then… when would I write?
Haha, if someone comes up with the answer to that question I’ll happily pay them for it. ^_^

Um, well I think that being prolific is one way to get noticed. Like Tess Mackenzie, if you have so many stories out there, eventually someone is bound to stumble onto one and follow the breadcrumb trail. 🙂
On the other hand, what you could also do is team up with some other writers out there and promote each other’s work. Not in a spammy way, obviously, because people don’t like that. Just dropping a mention now and then on the blog, maybe.

It certainly seems to work for Tess. She is incredibly prolific and I continue to be impressed by her turn out. It’s what I was hoping for with my shorts, which is why I’m releasing them one by one as well as a compilation when the series is done.
Also I’m part of the WOM group, I don’t know if you’ve seen the button in my sidebar? It’s designed to put authors in touch with other authors willing to spread the word about each other’s works.
There list is quite small, but the idea is a good one and I’m looking forward to seeing it grow. We all help each other and WOM (or simply word of mouth) is one of the best ways to do so.
